Heart murmur among reasons for Zoloft lawsuit

Zoloft, a commonly prescribed antidepressant drug, has been linked to a number of health problems in newborns whose mothers ingested it during pregnancy. These problems include harmful birth defects involving the heart, lungs, and abdomen.

One condition that has been reported in connection with Zoloft is infant heart murmur. There are two varieties of heart murmur: diastolic and systolic. In both varieties, extra sounds are audible in addition to the two sounds heard in a normal human heart beat.

In a diastolic heart murmur, the extra noise occurs after the second normal sound. In a systolic heart murmur, the extra noise occurs in between the two normal sounds. This extra noise can vary in volume.

Babies with heart murmur often show no symptoms that would alert others to the condition. While a heart murmur by itself is not always a problem, heart murmur sometimes accompanies other, more harmful, heart conditions.

If you or someone you know took the antidepressant Zoloft while pregnant and had a child with heart murmur or other birth defects, you may be eligible to participate in a lawsuit against Zoloft’s manufacturer.
