In 2006, a medical study found that Zofran crosses the placenta when taken by pregnant women. The researchers called for more studies to be conducted on the fetal effects of Zofran on unborn children.

While the medication is only approved for treatment of nausea and vomiting symptoms among chemotherapy patients and following surgery, it has been widely used “off-label” as a morning sickness drug.
